Our top 10 strategic priorities

Arnhem Centraal election program: one year of bus travel around Arnhem for 25 euros.
Traveling by bus through Arnhem for one year, for 25 euros, improved neighborhood safety, and increased attention to sports, culture, and accessibility. These are some of the striking proposals from Arnhem Centraal’s election manifesto for the 2026 municipal elections. As a local political party, with Alderman Bob Roelofs as the lead candidate, we are explicitly choosing plans that will have a direct impact on the daily lives of Arnhem residents. Affordability, safety, and a neighbourhood focused approach are the guiding principles.

Accessibility as a Basic Amenities
The proposal for a 25-euro annual bus pass for all Arnhem residents is intended to make the city more accessible and remove barriers to public transport. Arnhem Centraal considers affordable mobility a basic amenity; especially for residents on a budget, young people, and the elderly. At the same time, we want to relieve pressure on the city center by attracting visitors from the outskirts with low parking rates and a fast public transport connection to the city center.

Parking must remain easy for caregivers and healthcare providers. Arnhem Centraal is also committed to road safety, with lower speeds on busy streets, improved traffic light settings, and an annual approach to the ten most dangerous traffic locations in the city.

Balance between housing and quality of life
Regarding housing, Arnhem Centraal wants to accelerate the development of affordable housing, including in Rijnpark, while always preserving green spaces and quality of life. Seniors should be able to remain in their own neighborhoods for as long as possible. Relocation coaches should help stimulate the flow of people, especially those aged 55 and over.

In addition, we are investing in clean streets, good air quality, and a cooler city. Less urbanization and more greenery, including neighbourhoods like Kronenburg, should contribute to a pleasant living environment.

Safety organized locally
Safety is a key priority in our program. Arnhem Centraal wants more street lighting, targeted camera surveillance, and recognizable community police officers in every neighborhood. We want to take strong action against (sexual) street harassment and focus more on preventing domestic violence. Mental resilience training and increased attention to crisis and emergency situations are part of this.

Sports and culture as a unifying force
Sports and culture play a unifying role in Arnhem Centraal’s plans. We want to provide structural support to sports clubs and invest in both elite and recreational sports. Additional 3×3 basketball courts are planned for the city, and existing pump tracks are being expanded.

Culture is also receiving explicit attention. Arnhem Centraal aims to strengthen culture in the neighborhoods and make better use of iconic sites such as the Eusebius Church, the Historic Cellars, and the Synagogue. Arnhem’s heritage is seen as an important part of the city’s identity.

Caring and involved
In the social domain, Arnhem Centraal focuses on caring neighborhoods, where residents know and support each other. Loneliness and financial worries must be actively addressed. We want to strengthen citizen initiatives and maintain community centers as accessible meeting places. Affordable transportation options for people with limited mobility also remain a key priority.

Local direction
With the “Vote Arnhems!” program, Arnhem Centraal emphasizes its local character. We stand for a clean, safe and connected city, where residents are involved in decision-making and where practical solutions are paramount.
